1980's Blancpain Perpetual Calendar MOP Dial 5395 Full Set 'Biver' Signed
The 5395 was introduced circa 1986, the 3rd of the 6 Masterpieces created by Blancpain during the rebirth of the brand, focussed heavily on classic watchmaking while the world was looking the other way. Read all about it in our article here.
I literally love everything about this watch, an early reference perpetual in one of the rarest variants complete with papers signed by the owner at the time Jean-Claude Biver.
The case is wonderfully preserved with light patina developing, the original lines and deep engravings make this one of the best I’ve seen. most significant bit of wear is a light ding in one of the lugs (see pics).
The ‘Mother of Pearl’ dial is of course a highlight, a special addition to any watch it commanded a premium back in the day and very few have surfaced for sale. This being the only MOP yellow gold reference 5395 we’ve seen. The dial is in fantastic condition, under a powerful loupe there is light dial wear at 9 o’clock subdial hole and some light grazing in places (this could be natural pattern). See pics for details.
The set includes inner/outer boxset, pin pusher and paperwork signed by the retailer at point of sale and another signed by Jean-Claude Biver himself. An incredible collectors set.
