Price includes 3K GBP contribution to AP service in the first 12 months or equivalent price reduction.
A fascinating design and a wonderful slice of tourbillion history, produced for just 6 years from 1986-91. This AP was the first automatic wristwatch tourbillon on the planet and, until very recently, the thinnest automatic tourbillon wristwatch at just 5,3mm thick. Powered by an intriguing rocking hammer at 6 o’clock position and dial aesthetics taken from a famous Egyptian carving ft. Pharaoh Tutankhamun’s parents, this watch has buckets of character, oh and did we mention it was limited to just 401 pieces(less than 360 in this config)? Individually numbered on each case-back.
The case condition is superb, a few minor scratches and hairlines but looks to our eye unpolished from new. The engravings are deep and the lugs factory finish. The dial is striking to say the least, catching the light on the hand polished edges of the ‘Sunray’ esque dial.
The watch is accompanied with its original AP strap and original AP yellow gold butterfly clasp. Currently the watch is fitted to a custom strap and AP yellow gold pin buckle.
All in all a historically important watch, a huge piece of innovation and a fantastic reminder of AP’s history and creativity in the space. A great read on this watch can be found here on Hodinkee courtesy of Jack Forster.
Price includes 3K GBP contribution to AP service in the first 12 months or equivalent price reduction. Although the watch runs well with strong amplitude and low beat error, it does run every so slightly slow however not enough to warrant a full AP service presale. Any q’s on this please reach out.
