1987 Rolex Submariner 16803
If sold within the UK watch will be subject to 20% VAT
A colour changing dial, creamy patina lume and a razor sharp case, a seriously jazzy ref. 16803 ‘transitional’ Rolex Submariner from the late 80’s.
Produced in few numbers this watch has carved out a small collecting niche of its own, and boy does this example deliver! The case retains incredibly sharp edges with full lugs, the bezel is also in fantastic shape with a creamy lume pip at 12. The dial has developed a wonderful patina over the years, the likely cause of this aesthetic change being moisture which is also evident in the lume plots display an almost 3D puffiness with slightly darker outer edges. Of course the outcome of this is the amazing colours not only to the lume but the blue to purple to golden brown of the dial.
The handset has aged a few shades darker to the dial plots with the tritium consistently dead across all lume (pip/hands/dial plots).
The for the bracelet the correct 93153 bracelet code can be seen, there is very light stretch and the gold links centre links are developing a rosey patina. Bracelet is fitted with the correct 493 end links and the clasp stamped I10 (84’).
A stunning watch with character and flair that comes alive in the sun, perfect timing for summer we think, don’t you?
