1984 Vacheron Constantin 43031 'Swiss Only' Dial with Extract and 2022 VC Service
As rare as it is beautiful this early ref. 43031 features ‘SWISS’ only at 6 o’clock with the absence of the ‘Sigma’ symbols either side. The case and movement number date this watch to the very beginning of production, alongside other examples found with this particular dial variant.
The dial itself is in near flawless condition, the tone is deeper than later variants with a ‘dore-esque’ look to it. The shimmering eggshell finish is glorious in the sunlight, and provides endless stares as it transforms in different lighting conditions. The hands were exchanged at service, however replaced with identical examples. The lapis moon disc needs no introduction, a head turner in its own right.
The case is unpolished to my eye, the hallmarks and case number extremely crisp with the lugs thick with original lines. Rosey patina has developed on the case and hairlines are visible. Small indent in case back, present during service, deemed to be no issue to the watch and left as is.
The strap is a vintage VC strap and the buckle original yellow gold VC.
The watch recently returned from a VC service and comes with the international 2 year warranty. Also accompanying the watch are the Archive Extracts dating the watch to 1984. A truly stunning early example, wonderfully preserved and ready to be enjoyed for many years to come.
