Watch Brothers London had the pleasure of sourcing and curating Mr Porter’s recent vintage and neo-vintage collection, discover the pieces below.

No.1 — 1960's Rolex King Midas ref. 9630

A real collectors example.

Here we have the original MK1 King Midas ref. 9630, produced in very limited numbers throughout the 60’s with a hefty price tag at the time to match, this watch has a cult following and more recently seen a strong resurgence in popularity. Read our collectors guide to this model.

Being one of, if not the most expensive Rolex available at the time it was mostly seen strapped to the most famous and wealthy of wrists, from the likes of Elvis Presley to more recently Rhianna.

Due to the sheer amount of gold weight in the watch a large number of these were thought to have been smelted down over the years, leaving very few in circulation and even less in the condition of this example.

A striking piece with incredible history. You’ll do well to bump into another person wearing the same watch, if this is your vibe then this one may be for you.

No.2 — 1994 IWC Perpetual Calendar Ref. 2050 Full Set

www.mrporter.com

This watch is just bloody gorgeous.

With its ultra thin platinum case and aventurine like moon-disc, coming complete with all boxes and paperwork we couldn’t help but jump on this set.

The grey dial shimmers wonderfully in the light complimenting the case with the contrasting blued hands and moon disc bringing the perfect level of interest to the dial.

With 36mm ultra-thin perpetual calendars from the likes of VC and AP pushing 2-3x the price of these it feels like they may be rather overlooked and/or primed to be enjoyed at a fraction of the cost. From our experience handling the watch we can safely say its up there and as enjoyable as the rest.

A forgotten neo-vintage gem, but maybe not for long. Find it on mrporter.com

No.3 — 1970's Piaget Ultra-Thin Tiger Eye Ref. 902

1970's Piaget Ultra-Thin Tiger Eye Ref. 902

A reminder to collect what you love.

This manual wind 31mm Tiger Eye dial Piaget is one that truly took our breath away, and how often do you see them out in the wild?

The dial is in perfect condition, as is the rest of the watch, sitting low on the wrist with its ultra thin profile however carrying such presence with the vibrant dial. If you want something subtle and svelte but with serious character, this is one not to miss.

No.4 — 1980's Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ref. 14486TR

1980's Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ref. 14486TR

With all the hype and pop culture surrounding the Royal Oak we almost steered clear, that was however until this rare midsized tantalum and rose gold example came across our desk. Rarely seen on a wrist this watch was produced for a very short period in the 80’s, the combination of metals also rare to see on a Royal Oak providing a visual treat with great warmth and depth.

A great opportunity to add a rare vintage Royal Oak to the collection that will hold its own, and then some, against the sea of modern counterparts commonly seen.

1981 Rolex Oysterquartz Day-Date Ref. 19018

Same same but different… a Rolex Day-Date with a subtle twist, the quartz movement. The Oysterquartz is becoming increasingly popular and it’s easy to see why, with striking angles, silky bracelet and uncommon (for Rolex) quartz movement making this an ever popular piece among collectors.

Sharp examples like this one are becoming hard to find so if you like something a little different this is a piece to consider.
